Alston Sets First Official Visit

As he creeps closer to making his collegiate decision, Johnathan Alston has scheduled his first official visit.

"I've set up one with [N.C.] State – Jan 25," Alston said. "I'm trying to set up a second one with [North] Carolina. We haven't set up one yet, but we're talking about it."

Alston, a 6-foot-1, 197-pound wide receiver from Bunn (N.C.), has been split on the two in-state rivals since the end of the summer. He's found it difficult to break the tie between the two schools and hopes the official visits will provide assistance.

"I'm looking at the quarterback situation, where their program is going to be, and which offense throws the most," Alston said.

Regarding UNC, Alston communicates regularly with assistant coaches Gunter Brewer and Randy Jordan. Brewer coaches UNC's wide receivers, while Jordan serves at Alston's primary recruiter.

"I last talked to Coach Jordan last week," Alston said. "He came down to the school. He was checking on my ACT scores.

"He told me to keep my grades up. He was impressed with my ACT score – how far it went up. He said they are limited on scholarships and they want to pick the best [prospects] for the spots they have left."

Unlike at UNC where Alston has known the coaches for about a year, NC State has a brand new coaching staff. Following the season, the Wolfpack fired head coach Tom O'Brien and supplanted him with Dave Doeren. Doeren proceeded to replace almost the entire coaching staff, including wide receivers coach Troy Walters.

"I've only talked to the head coach one time and the new wide receivers coach one time," Alston said. "When I talked to the new wide receivers coach, it was brief."
