Binghamton University men's basketball will be headed to Chapel Hill, N.C. to face one of the nation's all-time greatest programs, the school announced today. The Bearcats will face University of North Carolina at 1 p.m. on Sunday, December 16 in the Dean E. Smith Center.
"This game has tremendous visibility for our program," said BU coach Al Walker, who has known UNC coach Matt Doherty since the two were at Chapel Hill in 1983-84. Walker was completing his graduate work and assisting Roy Williams with UNC's junior varsity squad while Doherty was starring for the Tar Heels in his junior and senior seasons. "We're excited to have the opportunity to play in the 'Dean Dome,'" Walker said. "It's a fabulous basketball environment."
The Binghamton Bearcats make their Division I debut this season, joining the American East Conference. The Bearcats return four starters from a squad that was 14-14 in independent D. II play last season.
