According to reports by Telebasket and Britball.com, former Tar Heel Steve Bucknall ('89) will play his 13th pro season with Aris Thessaloniki in the Greek A1 League.
The 35-year-old Bucknall was an all-star calibre performer the last two seasons, playing in his hometown with the London Towers, but reportedly turned down their offer to play in a reduced capacity and for less money in order to stay in London.
Bucknall is returning to the city of Thessaloniki where he played with Iraklis from 1996-98.
"I've missed Greece and I know [the coach] from my previous spell in Thessaloniki," Bucknall said after signing his one-year deal with Aris.
After leaving UNC in 1989, Bucknall played 18 games for the Los Angeles Lakers during the 1989-90 season, making him the first Briton to play in the NBA.
