Season Opener on ESPN Thursday Night

GREENSBORO, N.C. --- The Atlantic Coast Conference and ESPN announced Tuesday that North Carolina's season opener at South Carolina on Thursday, Aug. 29, will be a 6 p.m. kickoff on ESPN.

South Carolina – coming off an 11-2 season, including a 33-28 victory over Michigan in the Outback Bowl – is led by defensive end Jadeveon Clowney.

The Tar Heels will be featured on ESPN Thursday night games twice in 2013, as UNC will host Miami on Thursday, Oct. 17.

The Aug. 29 opener marks the earliest start to a Carolina football season since the Tar Heels debuted at Oklahoma on Aug. 25, 2001.

Carolina is 6-4 all-time in ESPN Thursday night games. Last season, Carolina topped Virginia, 37-13, in Charlottesville on Thursday evening.
