"Obviously I am his father, but I have always tried to be up front with Luke and be honest with him, but of course as a dad you are a little prejudice, but Luke had a very good season," said Mark Kennard. "He scored, he gave up the ball, and I think he led them in scoring, rebounding, and assists with the help of some great teammates as well.
"I think that he just handled himself well this year. He just did a great job this year. He played well, he had a great year, we won 19 ball games, and it was just a fun year. We got beat in the finals of the sectional tournament. He was named captain this year and I think he did a good job of being a leader as well."
Kennard has offers from Cincinnati, Dayton, Xavier, Ohio State, Indiana, Purdue, and West Virginia. Also, he will get an offer from Michigan and Butler on June 15, while other schools such as North Carolina, Notre Dame, and Michigan State are recruiting him hard.
While Kennard has made visits to places like Michigan, Ohio State, Dayton, Indiana and Butler, this weekend he will travel outside of the Midwest to North Carolina for a visit to watch the Tar Heels take on Duke.
"We've had those plans for three to four weeks, but we just confirmed everything finally now," said Mark Kennard.
This will be his first trip to UNC, and to this point the interest from the Tar Heels is at the beginning stages, but there has been consistent contact between the two parties.
"I have talked to the assistant a couple of times," said Kennard. "Our high school coach has had more contact with them than anyone. I know they have been in contact once every few weeks or something like that. They have kept up with our high school coach Ryan (Bales) to check in on Luke and since they can't call us we contact them every now and again and just check in."
One of the most recent visits he took was to Butler. According to his father the trip went really well and made an impression on Luke.
"Hinkle Fieldhouse is just an awesome place to watch a game," said Kennard "It was sold out when we went, and I think Luke really likes Coach (Brad) Stevens. I think they are getting ready to get a big upgrade as far as their facilities. When you look at the success, they weren't really on the map 5-6 years ago, and look where they are now."
He continued about Butler, "We saw them play at Dayton, and then saw them again. Luke had a great time and it was a great visit, and it was something he was excited about. Also he really likes the way they play."
Two other schools that get a lot of mention with Kennard are Michigan and Ohio State. The two Big Ten rivals have been recruiting Kennard as long as anyone and both have done an excellent job so far.
"Michigan and Ohio State are both awesome programs with great tradition and both are on Luke's radar, and both staffs are awesome," said Mark Kennard. "Both have awesome facilities as well."
He continued, "We have been to several Ohio State games and the atmosphere has been incredible. Also the coaching staff has done a great job of recruiting Luke."
About Michigan he said, "Coach (John) Beilein is one of the best coaches in the nation. They have a top 10 program right now and are playing for a Big Ten championship on Saturday."
For now don't expect any kind of quick decision for Kennard who, according to his father, is simply taking his time and gathering all the information he can.
"This is going to be Luke's decision and I guess he is just waiting things out," said Kennard. "I could take a guess at his top 8-10 right now, but he doesn't say much about who is his favorite. I know he likes all of them, and that is going to make his decision that much tougher."
