Tar Heels Covet Register

CORNELIUS, N.C. --- Chris Register was among the recruits who braved the cold, rainy conditions on Sunday to participate in the Nike Training Camp held at Hough High School.

"It's just cold – that's all," said Register, one of 2014's top-rated linebackers. "I've played a couple of games that were colder – played games when it was snowing. It's not the weather that's the problem, it's just that while you're running you don't really feel it but after you stand for a while it starts to affect you. I just made it my deal to keep [getting reps] so that I don't get stiff. I kept trying to get in the front of the line."

Among the Greensboro (N.C.) Dudley standout's most recent recruiting trips was North Carolina's Junior Day earlier in the month.

"It was different," said Register, who has also visited Clemson and NC State. "We came in on a blue carpet. They did a lot of different stuff throughout the whole day. They made a press conference type thing – that was kind of cool getting in front of a bunch of [fake] cameras."

More than anything, the visit altered Register's perception of UNC's coaching staff.

"They're creative," Register said. "The whole day was real creative. Nobody else has done that."

Among UNC's coaching staff, Register communicates the most with Chris Kapilovic, his primary recruiter. However, he has had conversations with the Tar Heels' newly hired linebackers coach, Ron West.

"He let me know that he wants me and that I can play all three [linebacker positions]," Register said. "He seems like a coach that knows what he's doing – he has a plan."

Despite the positive feedback from the UNC visit, Register is not prepared to name favorite schools.

"I'm pretty lined up right now," Register said. "Everybody is on the same level."

Register is unsure when he'll assemble a favorite schools list, but says it will come after the football season.

"I haven't really even thought about that yet," Register said. "I just want to play out my senior season."

When evaluating schools, Register's focus is how he feels when he's on campus.

Register doesn't have any upcoming recruiting trips planned.
