In addition to his final three, Tomlin, a 6-foot, 215-pound linebacker from Marietta (Ga.), collected scholarship offers from Arkansas, Clemson, Kentucky, Minnesota, Missiouri, and Mississippi. UNC was his first.
Originally, Tomlin had planned to wait until his senior football season to announce his decision.
"I just feel good about the school I'm about to choose," Tomlin said.
About a month ago, Tomlin named UNC his leader. However, he now says all three schools have an equal chance of landing him.
Of his finalists, Tomlin has visited UNC and Tennessee. He says don't discount NC State because of the lack of a visit. He has also visited Kentucky and Wake Forest.
On Tuesday afternoon, Tomlin conversed with Walt Bell, his primary UNC recruiter.
"We talked about when I'm going to take my next visit," Tomlin said. "I don't have anything set up, I'm still waiting to see what comes around."
Regardless of his decision on Friday, Tomlin figures to still visit UNC in July. He also says he's going to visit other schools.
As a junior, Tomlin accumulated 128 tackles, including 21 for a loss, three interceptions, and four forced fumbles.
