UNC Watching Dozier

AIKEN, S.C. --- On June 15, P.J. Dozier's phone starting ringing. It hasn't stopped since.

"Texas, Alabama, UNC, Ohio State, Kansas, Michigan, Indiana, NC State, Clemson, South Carolina, Mississippi State, Florida … a lot of major schools," the 6-5 rising junior from Columbia (S.C.) Spring Valley said of the colleges he's heard from since the Class of 2015 contact period began.

"I'm just trying to pick up as much interest and offers as possible -- just enjoying the process."

Most of those calls were from assistant coaches, but there were some head coaches. That included UNC's Roy Williams.

"It was great being able to talk to Roy Williams," Dozier said of their recent phone conversation. "Not everybody gets that opportunity. We had a good conversation.

"It wasn't anything like ‘We're offering you' or anything like that, but it's showing interest and keeping their eye on me. And hopefully an offer will come in the future."

The Tar Heel head coach told Dozier that he is looking for a combo guard in the 2015 class. Watching Dozier at the Peach State Showcase this week with the Upward Stars, one can see that he spends some time at both guard positions.

"They're recruiting me as a combo guard, playing on and off the ball," he said of UNC. "On this team I'm very comfortable (at either spot) and we've got other guards so I can move off the ball some. It really depends on the game situation and the defense that they're running and things like that.

"My game is scoring the ball, getting my teammates involved, rebounding."

Both Roy Williams and Indiana head coach Tom Crean were in the building for Dozier's 8 a.m. tip-off on Friday morning, departing the higher-profile Peach Jam event down the road to do so.

The significance of the viewing wasn't lost on Dozier.

"That's big because I do know how big the Peach Jam is, so knowing they'll come to the Peach State that's definitely (important).
