Phelps to join Williams at Museum on Wed.

Chapel Hill, NC – Former Tar Heels point guard Derrick Phelps will join his 1993 teammate Donald Williams, as they visit The Blue Heaven Basketball Museum this Wednesday, August 15th, from 1:00pm - 2:00pm.

Phelps is coming off a stellar season playing in Germany as his team, ALBA Berlin, won the 2001 German League Championship. He average 15.9 points and 4.2 assists per game. Another 1993 teammate, Henrik Rodl, also plays for ALBA.

Derrick Phelps and Donald Williams comprised the starting backcourt for the 1993 Tar Heels that won the National Championship in New Orleans. Complementing Williams' offense during the 1993 NCAA Tournament, Phelps' defense was pivotal during the stretch run of victories over Arkansas, Cincinnati, Kansas, and Michigan.

He played a complete game in the Finals, with 9 points, 6 assists, 3 rebounds, and 3 steals, as the Tar Heels defeated Michigan 77-71 to win the National Championship. Phelps' driving layup with just over 3 minutes remaining in the game gave Carolina the lead for good, 68-67.

In 1994, Phelps was named to the All-ACC Tournament First Team and garnered Second-Team All-ACC honors.

Phelps and Williams will be available for questions, autographs, and photos, and will sign the Letterman Wall at the Museum, as have several Tar Heels players that have made appearances this Summer at The Blue Heaven Basketball Museum.
