"I don't pay much attention to (the new teams). I don't care who we play. We worry about Oakland. I have no plans on changing what we do." – Oakland head coach Greg Kampe on his team's move to the Horizon League

"We want to take care of the ball a little better, but we're a fast-paced team, and with that comes some turnovers." – Guard Travis Bader after his team committed 17 turnovers in an exhibition win

2012-13 in Review: Oakland returns four starters from last season's 16-17 (10-6 Summit). The Golden Grizzlies were upset by Fort Wayne, 91-72, in the quarterfinals of the Summit League Tournament and then lost their Postseason Tournament opener to Youngstown State, 99-87.

Fire by 3: Guard Travis Bader enters his senior season looking to improve upon a solid junior campaign in which he averaged 22.1 points per game and led the country in 3-pointers made (4.2 per game). The 6-foot-5, 190-pounder took a staggering 360 3-pointers, connecting on 38.6 of his attempts. He is 101 3-pointers shy of J.J. Redick's all-time NCAA record (458). In last season's finale against Youngstown State, Bader set the conference and school's single-season 3-point field goal record with five treys to finish the year with 139.

Quick Hands: Senior guard Duke Mondy (12.0 ppg, 4.4 rpg) led the country last season in steals (3.03 per game). The Providence College transfer led the Big East in steals in 2010-11 with 59 before transferring to Oakland. If he leads the Horizon League in steals this season, he would become the first player in NCAA history to lead three different leagues in steals in consecutive seasons.

Short-Handed Roster: Four Golden Grizzlies will miss Friday's opener due to a variety of issues, according to Oakland's sports information officials. Freshman forward Jalen Hayes was diagnosed with mononucleosis two weeks ago and is out 6-8 weeks. Freshman guard Nick Daniels is out for another month after breaking his foot in September and senior forward Raphael Carter is out for the season with a groin injury. Starting senior guard Ryan Bass left the team in October. His return is unknown.

Defensive Woes: Defense wasn't Oakland's strength last season. The Golden Grizzlies ranked 343rd in field goal percentage defense (49.3), 287th in 3-point field goal percentage defense (36.4) and 327th in scoring defense (75.3).

Preseason Poll: Oakland was picked fourth in its first season in Horizon League. Green Bay, Wright State and Cleveland were voted ahead of the Golden Grizzlies.

Road Weary: Head coach Greg Kampe's squad played 20 road games in 2012-13 and open this season on a seven-game road trip that includes stops at UCLA, Gonzaga and Coastal Carolina.

Last Meeting: The top-seeded Tar Heels defeated the Golden Grizzlies, 96-68, in the first round of the NCAA Tournament on Mar. 18, 2005 in Charlotte, N.C. Marvin Williams led UNC with 20 points and Sean May added 19 as the Tar Heels shot 73 percent in the first half to take a 28-point lead. Rashad McCants scored 16 points in his return to the starting lineup after an intestinal disorder sidelined him for four games.

Series History: UNC leads the all-time series, 1-0.
