"I have a really good feel for them," Thomas added. "But it's nothing really too serious at this point."
A five-star center, Thomas ran with Team Texas on the summer circuit. He said Roy Williams saw him play during the summer and was pleased with his progression when they spoke on the phone.
"I've talked to him once," he said. It went really well. He said he thought I played well in the summer and he thought the way I controlled the game offensively was pretty legit."
"He said when (Coach) McGrath came and saw me I was in better shape and he said the work I put in late in the summer was vital to my game," Thomas added. "He liked that a lot. He just told me about their tradition and how they play."
Has North Carolina offered Thomas, a 6-foot-8, 240-poung big man? "I'm pretty sure they have," he said. "I kind of faded away from all of that at the end of the summer. At the end of the day if I wanted to commit to a school they'd take me. I know that for a fact because I have really good grades."
"For me it's not really about offers," he continued. "But I'm pretty sure towards the end of the summer just about every school offered me a scholarship. I'm pretty sure I have one."
The Heels have talked to Thomas about taking a visit, but he doesn't have anything scheduled.
"We've talked about it before," Thomas said. "North Carolina is really far and I'm still in the process of figuring out where I want to go to college and if I'm ready to start beginning the step of taking visits."
To date, Thomas, who is ranked as the No. 5 center in the 2015 class by Scout.com, has taken unofficial visits to Baylor, Oklahoma State, Minnesota, SMU, Texas, Texas A&M, Oklahoma, Kansas, Alabama and Arizona.
