Ga. DL Sets UNC Visit

ATLANTA --- Following an evaluation visit to Tucker (Ga.) High School last fall, North Carolina assistant coach Ron West extended a scholarship offer to junior Jonathan Ledbetter.

"He told me he watched my film," Ledbetter said. "He said he loved the way I played. He said I was really explosive off the ball. He said they were going to lose some kids, so he just really wanted a player like me in the program.

"I just told him that ‘I appreciate that and I'm glad you took the time to evaluation my film.' I told him I'll come check it out. He wants me to the UNC-Duke (basketball) game (on Feb. 12). I told him I'll come for sure and I'm probably going to bring my older brother."

At 6-foot-4 and 271 pounds, West told Ledbetter he could play either end or tackle in UNC's 4-2-5 defensive scheme.

"He said it just matter what I'm more comfortable with," Ledbetter said. "But to be honest with you, it doesn't matter to me. I like both positions. If I had to choose, I'd say D-tackle just because you get to be more explosive off the ball and splitting double-teams."

Ledbetter started at defensive tackle for the West during the Rising Seniors Bowl. He also has primarily played inside for Tucker.

In addition to watching one of college basketball's top rivalry games in-person, when Ledbetter visits UNC in February, he hopes to receive a complete view of the Tar Heels' football program.

"I really want to see the facilities – the locker room, the field," Ledbetter said. "I'll probably just get a quick tour, met the rest of the coaching staff and see how they are, and see how I'm feeling the school."

UNC is one of seven schools to have offered Ledbetter. Duke, Georgia Tech, Kentucky, Mississippi, Vanderbilt, and Virginia round out the remainder of the schools that have offered.

"If I had to choose out of my offers, it would probably be Ole Miss," Ledbetter said. "It would probably be between Ole Miss and Vandy.

"Ole Miss, they did really well this year. It's just a good school. They're on the come up. They have a lot of good players and key components coming together. The recruiting class they're about to sign is really good.

"And also with Vandy, they're on the come up and they're getting a lot of kids. And also, they have a player that graduated from Tucker that's already there – Jacob Sealand. He and I are really close."

Of his offers, Ledbetter has visited Duke and Vanderbilt. He has also made a few trips to both Alabama and Georgia.

Besides UNC, Ledbetter is looking to make a visit to Stanford this spring. A former teammate of his, Kirk Tucker, is committed there and will enroll in January. Ledbetter figures to make a trip to Palo Alto to see him and check out the Cardinal.

Additionally, Ledbetter is looking at visits to Florida State and Ohio State.
