"I figured it was going to happen eventually," Smith said about the upgrade in interest. "Coach Williams has come to two of my games himself. I figured it was going to happen.
"They actually invited me to a visit so I just had to pick a date out."
His father confirmed to Inside Carolina that they will visit Chapel Hill on June 3.
"It's going to be a nice experience," the 6-foot-2 guard added. "It will be my second time going up there, but this time it won't be to a game so I'm going to see how it all plays out."
North Carolina has been keeping tabs on Smith in recent months through an assistant coach.
"I've been talking to coach [C.B.] McGrath," Smith said. "(My relationship with Roy Williams) is not very strong right now. I haven't really been talking to him."
On the court, Smith is flourishing. He's one of the most improved 2016 prospects. A smooth athlete, Smith is a strong driver and terrific finisher at the rim. He's also a talented ball handler and good passer. He is currently ranked No. 25 overall and No. 6 at the point guard position. Expect him to rise in the next updated rankings.
