Dalton Favoring Four

MOORESVILLE, N.C. --- Jalen Dalton has attended two consecutive Fedora's Freak Shows.

"[The most recent Freak Show] was good," Dalton said. "It was a good vibe. The intensity was high. There was good competition."

During the one-on-one portion of camp, Dalton, a 6-foot-6, 240-pound defensive end from Clemmons (N.C.) West Forsyth, made it a point to go up against the top offensive line prospect as much as possible.

"I took [William] Sweet on my side," Dalton said. "I was good on the left side – that was his bad side. And then we went to his side, and you know he pancaked me."

When asked if that was a sneak peek of future college practices, Dalton didn't bite.

"If I said ‘Yea,' I'll be saying I'm going to Carolina," Dalton said with a laugh. "But you want to battle every practice. No matter who you're going against you want to give it your all. Going up against great competition is only going to make me better."

Following the Freak Show, Dalton conversed with Keith Gilmore, UNC's defensive line coach.

"I know last year, I wasn't mature on the football field," Dalton said. "But he told me that I made a big step. He was impressed with the difference between last year and this year. That made me feel good."

Dalton attended the Freak Show with close friend and fellow major UNC target Shy Tuttle. The two once again stayed the night in Chapel Hill.

"I stayed out of trouble," Dalton said with a laugh.

Fedora's Freak Show was Dalton's most recent visit to UNC. He has visited the school significantly more than any other.

"My feelings are still strong [towards UNC]," Dalton said.

Dalton had planned to spend the early part of the summer trimming his list of schools under consideration. That didn't happen.

"I'm not sure what schools I want to cut out fully," Dalton said.

Dalton does know which schools he definitely favors – Florida, Miami, UNC, and Virginia Tech.

"Same old thing about UNC and Virginia Tech – my familiarity with the schools and the coaches," Dalton said. "With Florida, I went down there last summer and then I have a former teammate that plays there. And then Miami, I've been talking to them a lot. There's a lot of tradition [at Miami], so that's good."

Now, Dalton is unsure when or if he'll announce a list of finalists.

"Maybe before the season [I'll name finalists]," Dalton said. "I was planning on committing third through fifth week. But I might just keep ya'll guessing. I might just come out one day – bam - this is where I'm committing."
