“Me not being 100 percent it kind of hurt the team so we had to pick it up,” he said. “About two games before I went up for a dunk and got undercut and came down hard on my tailbone.”
Tucker averaged 17.9 points and 6.4 rebounds playing for Team Charlotte in the Under Armour Association during the spring, but in four games this week he has averaged just 8.5 points and 3.2 rebounds per game.
The powerfully built wing in the class of 2015 is best known for his aggressive drives to the basket and ability to finish well above the rim.
“Definitely getting up and down and playing defense is my style of play and what I’m looking for,” said Tucker. “Also, just working on getting a consistent jump shot is my goal.”
Despite the injury, Tucker showed a snippet of his leaping ability when he was fouled flying in for a tip dunk just a few feet away from Williams.
“UNC has been looking at me and wanted to come see me play,” said Tucker. “They wanted to watch me, but obviously they wouldn’t be recruiting me if they didn’t think I fit their style of play. Roy said he does some things differently with recruitments and he just wanted to see me play in person. This was the first time that he has seen me play.”
Earlier in June, Tucker was scheduled to take an unofficial visit to UNC but was forced to reschedule due to the NBPA Top 100 Camp invite, where he played against some of the top players in the county.
“I think I did well at the Top 100,” noted Tucker. “I just had to play a different position because they had me at the one guard instead of my normal three or two, but I thought I played pretty well.”
Subsequent to the NBPA Top 100 camp, Tucker made the trek to Chapel Hill.
“I visited UNC three or four days after the camp. I took a tour of the campus and watched the players practice. I think it was their first practice and then I talked to the coaches. That was my dream school growing up and one of the schools I always watched.
“VCU, FGCU, Mississippi State, Clemson, Virginia Tech, and some others have offered,” said Tucker. I’ll probably pick a school sometime in September, around my birthday. I’ll probably have my top five soon and take officials.
When asked if UNC was an offer he was looking for, Tucker had a simple reply.
“Yes, it would be.”
