Heels Remain Interested in McQuaid

CHICAGO -- When Matt McQuaid came back on the market at the end of the summer, it gave UNC the opportunity to evaluate him -- albeit a small opportunity.

In its search for sharpshooters in the 2015 class, UNC viewed Virginia guard Kenny Williams extensively and ultimately offered a scholarship.

However, the Tar Heels coaches aim to log additional evaluation trips to see McQuaid before making a scholarship decision.

“They say they want to see me play more before they offer, but that they are very interested,” McQuaid said of UNC.

"They are definitely a school I would be interested in."

As one of the best shooters in the country, it is no surprise that McQuaid has numerous options.

The marksman from Duncanville (Texas) had a tremendous summer with Team Texas, and also decided to re-open his recruitment. Now his phone is staying busy.

“I think I played good,” said McQuaid. “I progressed each event, I think I shot the ball real well, and I showed I am also capable off the dribble.”

McQuaid has seen many programs reach out to him, but four of them stand out.

“I have offers from Michigan State, Indiana, Texas, and Creighton,” explained McQuaid.

With family ties to the state of Michigan, McQuaid made a trip to visit the Spartans recently.

“I made an unofficial to Michigan State,” noted McQuaid. “I loved everything about it. I love the coaching staff and all of the players. It is a great school.”

Another school working hard right now is Indiana, and the Hoosiers have made an impression.

“Indiana is a great school,” said McQuaid. “They have a lot of tradition and hopefully I can make a visit there and check out the campus and get to know the coaches better.”

For now McQuaid is in no hurry to make a decision. He says this time around he wants to get as much information as he can before issuing a commitment.

“I’m going to take my visits in the fall and then I will just go from there,” noted McQuaid.
