Sometimes schematic designs are based on strategic thinking, while other times they are based on personnel. The latter applied to UNC’s defense against ECU. Vic Koenning trotted out a unique 3-2-6 scheme, complete with Travis Hughes and Norkeithus Otis shifting between linebacker and bandit, and a third safety in Allen Artis. The reason, according to Koenning, is that he didn’t have a bandit cleared to play until midway through the week. Shakeel Rashad, Mikey Bart and Otis were all banged up and Koenning’s adjustment was based on getting the best 11 players on the field. ...
