4-Star DE Chooses UNC

CLEMMONS, N.C. --- Four-star prospect Jalen Dalton announced his verbal commitment to North Carolina during a press conference at West Forsyth High School on Thursday, opening his jacket to reveal a UNC shirt underneath.

Dalton, a 6-foot-6, 240-pound defensive end, selected UNC over co-finalist Virginia Tech, as well as a slew of other schools that have offered, including Alabama, Clemson, Florida, Georgia, Florida State, Miami, Ohio State, and Tennessee.

"The coaching staff, they did a great job recruiting me," Dalton said upon making his announcement. "And it felt like home.”

Prior to scheduling the press conference, Dalton took official visits to both UNC and Virginia Tech. He also made countless unofficial visits to Chapel Hill, including the past two Fedora Freak Shows and the junior day held in conjunction with the UNC-Duke basketball game.

Dalton is UNC’s highest ranked prospect for the 2015 class. He checks in at No. 153 in the Scout 300 and is the 18th best defensive end.

"His length just helps you out tremendously," West Forsyth head coach Adrian Snow said. "He specializes in rushing the passer, containing things. Even if [the opponent] tries to get outside, he can just run and he's so long. He can just reach out and grab you."

Dalton has been selected to play in both the NC-SC Shrine Bowl on Dec. 20 and Under Armour All-American Game.

He has submitted the necessary paperwork to UNC to enroll in January.
