Jumbo Athlete Commits to UNC

North Carolina has added a jumbo athlete to its 2015 verbal commitment list in Charlie Heck.

"It is true, I am so excited," confirmed Heck, a 6-foot-7, 240-pounder who played tight end and defensive end for Rockhurst (Mo.).

Heck helped lead his team to the MSHSAA Class Championship on Saturday. As his senior film began to make its rounds recently, he received scholarship offers from Air Force, Indiana, and Kansas State. However, when UNC offered, he quickly accepted.

Heck camped at UNC this past summer clocking a 5.08-second 40-yard dash and measuring a 9-foot-2 broad jump. Due to his apparent versatility, the Tar Heel staff has yet to determine his ideal college position.

His brother, Jon, is a starting offensive tackle at UNC.

Heck’s father, Andy, is the Kansas City Chiefs’ offensive line coach. Before entering the coaching profession, the elder Heck played 12 years in the NFL. In 1989, he helped lead Notre Dame to the National Championship.
