"We have to continue to improve our mentality — each day, each practice, each game — to be more consistent with our approach.” - UNCG head coach Wes Miller following his team's win over Greensboro College last week

"We did a great job of ‘playing the next possession’ and not allowing what just happened to affect the next play. ETSU is one of the top offensive teams we will play this year so to come in here and get a victory, is very rewarding to our guys.” - Miller following UNCG's win on Saturday

Season to Date: UNCG enters Tuesday’s contest with a 4-6 (1-0 SoCon) record. After winning their season opener over Chowan, the Spartans dropped their next six (including an 87-79 loss at Indiana) before winning their last three. Wes Miller’s squad won at East Tennessee State, 80-79, to open conference play on Saturday. The Spartans were picked to finish fifth in the SoCon preseason coaches poll.

Sophomore Standout: Tevon Saddler, a second-year guard out of Aberdeen, Md., turned in a pair of solid performances last week in wins over Greensboro College and ETSU. The 6-foot-6, 205-pounder averaged 24.0 points on 64 percent shooting and dished out 10 assists in the two victories. Saddler’s play wasn’t a complete surprise as he was named to the SoCon Preseason All-Conference Team. He’s averaging 16.4 points, 4.4 rebounds and 4.3 assists per game this season.

Injuries Limiting Spartans: Miller dressed just eight scholarship players during several of UNCG’s early season losses due to a rash of injuries at the guard spot. Freshmen Marvin Smith (foot) and C.J. Coleman (leg) have yet to play this season and senior guard Jamal Mitchell suffered a season-ending knee injury at Eastern Michigan on Nov. 22. Sophomore guard Diante Baldwin returned from a preseason knee injury last week and is averaging 7.0 points per game.

Heavy Minutes for Starters: Due in part to the injuries, UNCG’s starting five has played 77.8 percent of the total available minutes this season. Senior guard Nicholas Paulos leads the way with 36.9 minutes per game, while Saddler and sophomore guard Clay Byrd are both averaging more than 32 minutes per contest.

Hot Hand from Deep: Paulos is connecting on 47.1 percent of his 3-point attempts this season on 33-of-70 shooting. The Salt Lake City, Utah native moved into fourth place all-time in school history with 204 career 3-pointers.

Defensive Woes: UNCG has struggled to limit its opponents’ effectiveness on the offensive side of the floor through the first month of the season. The Spartans rank 324th in adjusted defensive efficiency (107.0), 287th in defensive effective field goal percentage (53.0) and 309th in 3-point percentage defense (39.2), according to

Tough Run vs. ACC: UNCG is 2-51 all-time against ACC opponents. The Spartans snapped a 23-game losing streak to the ACC last December with a 55-52 victory at Virginia Tech.

Last Meeting: The Tar Heels defeated the Spartans, 81-50, at the Smith Center on Dec. 7, 2013. UNC closed the first half on a 25-1 run to blow the game open. Five different Tar Heels scored in double figures, lead by Brice Johnson’s 14 points.

Series History: UNC leads the all-time series, 1-0.
