Jones Receives Medical Hardship

CHAPEL HILL, N.C.--Due to chronic knee pain in his left knee, University of North Carolina junior strong safety Marcus Jones will not be able to continue to play football.

The 6-2, 206-pound native of Lufkin, Texas, will receive a medical hardship and will remain on scholarship for the 2001 season. Jones was originally injured in 1999 in an off-field accident and suffered a torn left anterior cruciate ligament. He struggled to regain complete mobility in 2000 and saw action in just three games.
