Q&A with Tray Scott

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. --- After his first practice as a member of the Tar Heel staff, new defensive line coach Tray Scott spoke to reporters for the first time...

Opening comments:
“It has been going extremely fast, so I have just been trying to really work on multi-tasking, catching up with the recruits and getting guys caught up with the type of technique I want them to play. So far it has been good though. The biggest thing bout it, everybody on the D-line wants to get better.”

On his young defensive line’s potential:
“It’s raw talent. They are looking to get coached and be developed. And they want to know exactly what is going on. The youngness makes me even more excited about it because I am not losing many of them. In the grand scheme of things they have to make sure they are focused. The biggest thing is IBI - inch-by-inch. Just focus on your progress through the process. Sometimes they get in a rush and want to do too many things too fast. Focus on your progress through your process, that’s what we try and tell them.”

With the new scheme has it been tough moving guys around?
“Not at all. It’s been pretty smooth. They practiced three days before I got here and it was pretty much set. We will eventually cross-train a few of the guys, but for the most part it has been a smooth transition.”

Anything interesting about being in a new conference?
“This is the big time. This is a power five conference and it is an absolute blessing. I really appreciated my time at Tennessee-Martin because it helped me get to the bridge to here, but this is amazing. This is an opportunity to do it on a big time level for sure.”
