Yulee Feels Loyalty Toward UNC

North Carolina has been recruiting Jaquan Yulee since well before his rise to an elite ranking and an invitation to The Opening. Now that Alabama and others have joined the race, the Tar Heels are fighting to stay in the mix

CLIFTON, Va. --- Jaquan Yulee doesn’t hide his Alabama infatuation. But he’ll remain loyal to North Carolina.

“North Carolina has a big chance with me,” Yulee said. “They’ve been one of my top schools since the beginning and they’re going to be one of my top schools. They’ve been there since my freshman year. I just have to see how everything plays out and enjoy everything that’s coming at me now.”

Besides Alabama and UNC, Yulee, a 6-foot-1, 258-pound linebacker from Chesapeake (Va.) Indian River, is considering Michigan, Michigan State, NC State, and Virginia Tech.

Yulee crowned Alabama his leader shortly after visiting Tuscaloosa in March.

“When Alabama comes calling, you can’t turn that down,” Yulee said. “But then again, when it comes down to a situation I’ve got to do what I’ve got to do to see what’s best for me.”

Also in March, Yulee attended UNC’s exclusive junior day.

“It was amazing,” Yulee said. “We played corn [hole] and my partner and I came up short of the championship [of the tournament]. We basically enjoyed ourselves.”

The junior day ended with the UNC-Duke basketball game.

“That was a live game – the atmosphere was crazy,” Yulee said. “I never thought that that rivalry game would be that live of a game, but it was amazing just to see that sight.”

During the junior day, Yulee was introduced to John Papuchis, UNC’s new linebackers coach. The two now communicate on a regular basis.

“He just tells me to come and play football, and make the decision that’s best for me,” Yulee said.

Yulee plans to return to UNC, as well as Alabama, this summer. He’s also looking into scheduling trips to Clemson, Michigan, and Michigan State.

As far a decision, Yulee is considering either a homecoming verbal commitment or doing something after the football season.

On Sunday, Yulee participated in the Nike Opening Regional where he earned an invitation to The Opening.
