Ingram: 'I'll Be Ready'

Brandon Ingram spoke to Inside Carolina about his final in-home visit with Roy Williams and his favorite schools heading into Monday's big announcement.

The wait is almost over.

On Monday, heralded Kinston (N.C.) High School senior forward Brandon Ingram will announce which college he will attend for the 2015-16 school year.

The 6-9 Ingram has had six finalists — UNC, Duke, N.C. State, Kansas, Kentucky and UCLA — on edge for months while he contemplated.

Even now, Ingram says he doesn’t have a clear cut choice.

“I’m still not 100 percent where I’m going to go,” he said.

On April 22, Tar Heels coach Roy Williams made his final in-home visit to try and convince Ingram to don Carolina Blue. Since the two have had dozens of conversations over the phone, along with prior in-home and campus meetings, Ingram said there wasn’t a lot of new dialogue.

“It was pretty much the same thing,” Ingram said. “He talked about how much they wanted me, how they could use me and that I could help the program right away when I stepped on campus. He also cleared some things up.”

One piece cleared up involved the ongoing NCAA investigation. Ingram said he heard from others that UNC received the Notice of Allegations from the NCAA on April 17, which was why he mentioned it in an ESPNU interview earlier this week. In fact, UNC has not yet received that important document.

Ingram said he has been paying attention to the developments and his last talk with Williams helped set the record straight.

“I’m only listening to him and he cleared everything through the conversation,” Ingram said. “I still stand good with Carolina — they’re still my favorites with Kansas and Duke. Everyone’s just going to have to wait until Monday when I make my decision.”

As the days wind down to his announcement, Ingram said he has had mixed feelings about the recruiting process. While he has appreciated the process, Ingram is ready to move forward.

“At times I’ve liked it, but it’s also been difficult,” Ingram said. “It’s good to be wanted while I make my decision on a school, but I’m kind of ready to get it over with. On Monday, I’ll be ready to give an answer for everyone to know.”

Ingram has opted not to travel to a national TV studio to do his announcement. Instead, he'll hold a ceremony at Kinston High at 6 p.m. on Monday.
