Buckman aims for earlier decision

Tar Heel target Brad Buckman, a 6-9 PF from Austin (TX) Westlake, has assembled his list of in-home and official visits -- and they indicate that a decision could come sooner than previously expected.

As Buckman told IC two weeks ago, he has narrowed his list of schools down to four: Texas, North Carolina, Kansas and UCLA.

In a conversation with the Buckman family yesterday, IC has learned the following important dates for Brad Buckman as he considers those four schools.

This coming weekend, Sept. 7-9, Brad will head to Kansas for an official visit. He'll begin his in-home visits with Matt Doherty next Tuesday (Sept. 11) and UCLA's Steve Lavin will be in town the following night (Sept. 12).

The next day, Buckman heads to Chapel Hill for his official visit to Carolina from Thursday to Sunday (Sept. 13-16) -- the weekend of the SMU football game.

Texas head coach Rick Barnes makes the short trip to Buckman's house for a Sept. 19 in-home. Two day later, Buckman heads off to UCLA for an official visit.

Texas will also receive an official visit although it will be a short trip from the suburbs of Austin to the campus downtown and the date has not yet been finalized. The date of head coach Roy Williams' visit on behalf of Kansas is in the process of being changed and a solid date is not yet arranged.

It will clearly be a busy month for Brad Buckman, but after in-home and official visits with all four schools over the next few weeks, he hopes to be ready to make a decision. The family told IC that the plan is for an announcement to be made in a month.

In-Homes - UNC (9/11), UCLA (9/12), Texas (9/19) and Kansas (TBA).
