Roy Williams Offers Bolden

Roy Williams extended an offer to the No. 1 center in the 2016 class - Marques Bolden - on Monday night.

Monday marked the first day Marques Bolden has spoken to Roy Williams. And they ended up speaking twice.

UNC began to pick up its interest in the 6-10 standout from DeSoto (Tex.) High since the spring travel circuit concluded, as Tar Heel assistant coach Steve Robinson took the lead. On Monday UNC's head coach took the next step.

"I talked to (Roy Williams) earlier today and we were talking about the way they do things, their style of play and how I fit into their system," Bolden said. "Then I ended up talking to him again tonight. We talked for 10 or 15 minutes. He was talking about the bigs he’s coached and the pros he’s had and their player development. Then he just offered me a scholarship."

Bolden has thus far logged unofficial campus visits to Texas, Kansas, and Baylor. With all the new offers he's landed in recent months, he's sure to add more trips in the near future. Williams hopes that itinerary will include UNC.

"He just told me he planned on watching me a lot in July and hopefully teaching me more about the University of North Carolina and how they do things," Bolden said.

"I don’t really know a lot about the University of North Carolina, but I plan to learn a lot more and become more interested in their program."

Bolden is ranked the No. 1 center and No. 6 overall prospect in the rising senior class.

"Bolden has become one of the nation's elite centers," writes's Rob Harrington. "He's strong, athletic, scores with his back to the basket and strikes an imposing figure on defense as well. He's both productive and has the room to expand his game even more, placing him ahead of the frontcourt field."
