The Sporting News has the latest version of their recruiting roundtable, with some real good quotes on various top high schoolers.
Most notably, expert Brick Oettinger relays a story that Antoine Wright was UNC's for the taking. Wright, a Mass. WF ranked No. 23 in our Consensus Rankings, has since committed to Texas A&M.
But the story we heard around here was when Matt Doherty had contacted [Antoine Wright] for North Carolina, he expressed some interest but not a scholarship offer. Wright said, in effect, "You're my No. 1 choice. If you offer me a scholarship, I'll commit." But North Carolina badly needs two big guys. If they bring in a wing forward also, then that would only leave them two scholarships for the year after. Then they'd have to decide whether to take commitments from the Stewart twins (Lodrick and Rodrick, 6-4, Rainier Beach, Wash.). If they did, then that wouldn't leave any scholarships to bring in another big guy, which they would badly need. I think what they'd like to do is get two big guys this year and no wing forward, then have three available to give the following year, so they could get the Stewart kids and another big guy. Well, so much for offering Antoine Wright. They decided not to offer him and Wright very quickly went ahead and announced for Texas A&M. That's what I heard. I'm in Durham, but that's what sources in Chapel Hill tell me.
