Surratt Flips to UNC

Chazz Surratt decommitted from Duke and committed to UNC on Friday morning, his mother confirmed to Inside Carolina.

Chazz Surratt was a Blue Devil. Now he's going to be a Tar Heel.

“Yep, (he decommitted) just a few minutes ago,” Brandi Surratt said. “He’s committing to UNC.”

The 6-2 quarterback led Denver (N.C.) East Lincoln to a 16-0 record, passing for 4338 yards and 51 touchdowns last season, while also rushing for 1,239 yards and 22 touchdowns on 156 attempts.

Surratt committed to Duke on April 21 over offers from Boston College, Clemson, Georgia Tech, North Carolina, NC State, Tennessee, Wake Forest and West Virginia among others.

"He's one of those kids that are so versatile that he could do anything at any position," East Lincoln head coach Mike Byus said. "He just has that natural build and he has that quickness. He could be going 100 miles per hour, cut, and then return to top speed. He's such a quality passer as well as a rusher."

An AP all-state selection for both football and basketball, he plans to play both at UNC.

Surratt ended his sophomore campaign with 2,590 yards on 178-of-273 (65-percent) passing, with 28 touchdowns and ten interceptions. He also rushed for 1,624 yards and 34 scores on 208 carries (7.8-yard average).
