Wenyen Gabriel entered the summer an unranked prospect. He's exiting the summer a potential five-star prospect with offers from many of the nation's best.
North Carolina joined that offer list on Friday.
The now 6-10 rising senior from Wilbraham & Monson Academy in Massachusetts grew three inches in the last year and took the July circuit by storm with his active and aggressive style.
Roy Williams watched him average 17.4 points, 8.6 rebounds, 2.4 blocks at the adidas Championships last week in Las Vegas. Gabriel shot 59 percent from the field and 47 percent on three-pointers.
Gabriel's Mass Rivals team was 7-1 with him in the lineup last week, with the only loss coming in Sunday's championship game - a two-point defeat to Team Loaded Virginia, in which Gabriel had 21 points and 13 rebounds (including nine offensive rebounds).
In addition to UNC, Gabriel's offer list includes Connecticut, Duke, Georgetown, Kentucky, Kansas, Maryland, Notre Dame, Texas, Virginia, and Xavier.
