“Really, I’ve just been talking to my family. And I’ve been talking to Coach [Larry] Porter and he said he had turned away other running backs just waiting for me to commit. But he felt like he got to the point where he was going to have to start accepting running backs when they tried to commit. And I decided that I wanted the opportunity to be the only running back that they brought in this class. Coach Porter told me that if I chose to come there, I would be the only running back in this class.”
Did you just wake up this morning and decide to commit or did a conversation with Porter this morning prompt you to commit?
“I had talked to him and my head coach [earlier in the week]. And I had been talking to my mom and my head coach and my father. We just have been going back and forth just thinking about it. For the last three or four days, it was a matter of when it was going to happen. But I decided to do it this morning.”
How did you actually commit?
“When I talked to Coach Porter, he just said he wanted to hear me say, ‘I am Jordon Brown and I am a Tar Heel.’ So I gave that to him. Everybody seemed pretty excited.”
“I think they have the best combination of the things I’m looking for in a school, which are the opportunity to play early, the opportunity to win, and great academics. I felt they had the best balance between those three things.”
What sort of impact did growing up a UNC fan have on your decision?
“I wouldn’t say that really had an impact. I just think it was a coincidence that they were the best fit for me and I’ve always been a Carolina fan. I don’t think me being a fan impacted my decision – it was more just the best choice for me.”
You’ve talked about taking official visits in the past. Is that still the plan?
“I’m not sure. I’m not sure which school would still allow official visits. But, if it’s allowed, I probably will take a few official visits, but I’m not sure where.”
You could practically walk to UNC. How often should we expect to see you in UNC?
“They want me to get up to practice just to watch them practice and to see how they practice. So I’m going to do that.
“I’m not sure about every home game, but I’ll definitely be at a lot of them.”
You plan to enroll early, correct?
“Yes, I have all my credits and my paperwork together. That was one of the reasons why I wanted to commit early.”
