ICTV: Marquise's Homecoming

Marquise Williams opens his final Tar Heel season on the big stage - and in his home town.

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. -- For senior quarterback Marquise Williams, Thursday's game against South Carolina isn't just the season opener, but a return home.

Williams talked about what it means for him to play in his hometown. He also mentioned the large number of talented players that are recruited out of Charlotte.

The starting QB said he is especially excited to play on the same field as Carolina Panthers quarterback, Cam Newton.

"I'm excited to be in Charlotte, it's huge. And then Bank of America Stadium, where Cam Newton plays, I get excited when I think about Cam Newton playing there. I'll get the trademarks of playing there on Thursday night, so I'm excited for that," Williams said.

He went on to speak about the potential for North Carolina's team to improve with more in-state talent.

"There's a lot of guys down there with so much talent. When you're playing down there or scrimmage down there you just showcase the talent that we've got," he said. "It's just Charlotte coming together and staying home in-state, like me coming to Carolina. You want to stay home, a lot of guys from Florida they want to go to Florida State or Miami. If you just keep those guys in-state to come here and play football, this would be a tremendous university."
