CHAPEL HILL, N.C. -- Less than a month after losing their head coach, the Fighting Illini have managed to start their season 2-0. On top of that, they haven't given up any touchdowns in either game. These stats have not gone unnoticed by UNC's offensive players.
Offensive guard Landon Turner, who experienced something similar with the firing of Butch Davis in 2011, said he's impressed with the team chemistry that's allowed Illinois to be successful during this difficult time.
"I think the coaching situation was different but that's very impressive it's a testament to them, that's very impressive that they can rally and stick together," Turner said.
"It just shows that they stick together and as a group they really care about each other and that's what's going to win you a lot of football games. So that's something you have to watch out for."
Wide receiver Quinshad Davis said he's excited for the opportunity to be the first team to score a touchdown on the Illini.
"That's an opportunity we'll kindly take," Davis said. "We definitely want to put a lot of points on the board."
