CHAPEL HILL, N.C. -- John Ferranto was ready when his number was called.
The junior started all 13 games on the much maligned 2014 offensive line, but emerged from spring ball second on the depth chart. When Bentley Spain went down with an injury during Week 2, Ferranto's stepped right in.
Ferranto said he was excited to get back into the game and then get the starting nod against Illinois.
"It's always a little different when you go in the game," he said. "You get a little more adrenaline, especially since it was my first game back. I had a lot of adrenaline going so from that aspect you have to calm yourself down. But for the most part I just went out and had a little fun."
The offensive tackle said he immediately bought into offense's commitment to the running game - which is yielding results in this young season.
"I think it's just the mindset we have as an offense," Ferranto said. "The first day of camp Coach Littrell said we are going to run the ball. So we had to make that a part of our personality, who we are. Us as an offensive line are going to take care of the backs we have because they're such great players."
