Q&A with James Pierre
What made you want to make the switch from Miami to North Carolina?
“I felt like it was a better opportunity to hit the field faster. And I liked the facilities and I liked the jerseys and things.”
How firm is this decision? Do you plan on officially visiting other schools?
“I’m going to take all five of my [official] visits. I don’t know where, yet.”
Are you still considering Miami? Why or why not?
“No, I’m not thinking about them right now. My mom felt like North Carolina was a better place for me.”
Besides UNC, what other schools are you talking to?
“South Florida and there are a couple of others.”
Your lone visit to UNC was in June when you camped there. What role did that visit play on your decision?
“It was a nice place when I went down there. I loved the helmets, the jerseys – I loved it all.”
When’s the next time you’ll be in Chapel Hill?
“I don’t know yet. Probably my official visit after the season.”
Who recruited you for UNC and what did he/they tell you?
“Both Coach [Charlton] Warren and Coach [Larry] Porter. They told me I could come in [and play] as a true freshman, because I have the dog in me.”
Where does Warren see you fitting into UNC’s secondary?
“He said I could play nickel, safety and corner. He sees me all over the place.”
How do you feel about being spread around to three different positions?
“I play safety and corner [at Deerfield Beach]. I’ll play multiple positions, because I’m a ball player.”
A former teammate of yours, Jason Strowbridge, plays for UNC. What sort of impact did that have on your decision?
“Jason and I are really close. Like, we played together growing up (with the) Deerfield Dragons and we won the Super Bowl. I felt like following him.”
What advice did Strowbridge give you?
“He just told me it was a good place to be [and] it’s very quiet.”
A current teammate of yours, Aaron Robinson, is committed to Florida but has expressed an interest in UNC. Will you be recruiting him?
“I’ll recruit him. North Carolina has a 30-percent chance. His mom likes the Gators – she’s a big fan.
“I’ve been talking more to Devin Singletary about playing with me [in college].”
