CHAPEL HILL, N.C. -- J.P. Tokoto is gone and someone has to take his place, Theo Pinson said he's ready to be that someone.
Pinson isn't back in full swing yet, as part of his recovery from offseason foot surgery, but he said he's already mentally prepared to fill a bigger role for his team this season.
"Of course I wish he was still here, he was a great teammate, a great player and he would've made us even better," Pinson said of Tokoto. “But at the same time that means somebody else has to step up and that's my job and I'm ready to go."
He's actually not fully ready to go just yet. He won't back to full speed until after the first three weeks of practice. Pinson says his slow return is a testament to the team's expectations for him in 2015-16.
"I'm excited, that's the reason we're taking a slower approach to it this because I have a bigger role this year," he said. "They're asking for a lot from me and I'm ready to just get started."
