Luke Maye's Home Debut

UNC freshman forward Luke Maye scored his first points as a Tar Heel in Sunday's win over Fairfield.

What’s the challenge been for you getting adapted to the college game?
"It’s just adjusting to the speed and the quickness and size of the other players. It’s just been an adjustment for me coming straight from high school, I’m just trying to do the best I can to continue to play hard and play aggressively."

How exciting has it been to get into the games?
"It’s been great, I just keep trying to play hard and continue to do what I do best, and hopefully it will work out in the end."

What do you do best?
"Just work hard. Get to the offensive glass. Rebound. Shoot, dribble, just a lot of the things that make me who I am as a basketball player."

Was your first actual game in the Smith Center what you expected?
"It was surreal. It was a lot of fun, and I just loved the way the crowd reacted, and how exciting it is for the rest of the season."

How do you try to establish a rhythm coming off the bench?
"I’m just trying to go in there and play hard and continue to help my teammates get open, and when I get an opportunity, I’m gonna take the most of it and hopefully it will work out for the best."

Have you been surprised by the athleticism of the competition at this level?
"I knew when I was getting myself into playing this level, and playing for this team, and I just know I’ve got to continue to get better, and continue to make the most of the time that I have on the court."

Were you surprised by how much you were gonna have to run at UNC?
"I was a little bit warned before I started practice by all my teammates, and it’s just been great going through everything with them, and having them as my brothers out there, it’s just been a lot of fun."

How is the senior leadership on this team?
"It’s great. They all look out for each other, and we’re all pretty close, go to meals after games, and stuff like that, and we just all are happy when we’re around each other."
