Tar Heel head coach Matt Doherty, and assistant Doug Wojcik, were guests at the house of Shavlik Randolph on Sunday evening in Raleigh. This was the UNC staff's first in-home visit of the fall, and was also the first for Randolph.
"Over the past year, we've gotten to know the coaching staff very well, so this was more of a formal visit where we could talk," Shavlik's father, Kenny, told IC Sunday night, as Shavlik was unavailable for comment.
Kenny Randolph, who sat in on the visit along with his wife, said Doherty "did a very, very good job."
"He pointed out the reasons for Shavlik to go to Carolina," he said, "and he showed Shavlik how he would fit into their system."
The elder Randolph added that Shavlik had the opportunity to ask the UNC staff questions, and in turn, the staff asked Shavlik questions.
"It's just another step in the recruiting process," Randolph said. "Shavlik will digest all of this and we will move forward in the process."
Moving forward entails three more in-home visits this week -- Duke on Monday, N.C. State on Tuesday and Florida on Thursday -- and then official visits over the next month, including Chapel Hill on the weekend of Oct. 13 (Midnight with Matt).
