UNC, Roy Williams Prioritizing Rechon Black in 2018

Roy Williams's trip to watch Rechon Black this week was another indicator of UNC prioritizing the in-state sophomore.

HARRISBURG, N.C. --- Rechon “Leaky” Black is establishing himself as one of North Carolina’s top early targets in the 2018 class.

With three recent visits, Roy Williams and his staff are becoming more familiar with the sophomore guard and his family.

Over the past six weeks Black, a 6-6 point guard from Concord (N.C.) High School, has unofficially visited UNC twice. UNC assistant coach Steve Robinson has watched Black on multiple occasions and, on Monday night, Williams got his first in-person viewing of the lanky sophomore as Concord played at Hickory Ridge.

What Williams saw was a young player teeming with talent, who’s only just beginning to tap into his potential.

“I think what they’re doing – Coach (Williams) has talked about developing a relationship right now,” his father, Rechon Black Sr., said. “They want to make sure that Leaky wanted to play for him and also he wanted to make sure he wanted to coach Leaky. Make sure it’s a good fit, which I can respect that. Making sure everything is a good fit before they did anything.”

Black’s visit on Sunday to the Smith Center followed up his attendance at Late Night with Roy in October.

“It was a good experience, he (Coach Williams) gave me and my family courtside seats for the Davidson game,” said Black. “We had a good time and enjoyed ourselves.”
