Jeremiah Tilmon, a 6-10, 235-pound center in the 2017 class, got a call from Roy Williams on Thursday evening.
Tilmon took a break from studying for finals to hear the North Carolina coach extend a Tar Heel scholarship offer.
Williams was at La Porte (Ind.) La Lumiere to see Tilmon on Wednesday night, watching the talented post player score 20 points in a win.
Tilmon is a St. Louis native, now in his first year at La Lumiere, and is familiar to the UNC staff as a result of numerous viewings of his AAU team, the St. Louis Eagles, this past year as UNC pursued his older teammate Jayson Tatum.
Kansas, Iowa, Illinois and Missouri are the other four schools listed prominently by Tilmon.
"At 6-10 and equipped with a 7-2 wingspan, Tilmon has good size and length for the center position," says Brian Snow of Scout.com, which ranks Tilmon No. 17 overall in the junior class. "Tilmon is a good area rebounder and solid shot blocker. On the offensive end, Tilmon has good hands and touch around the basket. The form on his mid-range jumpers look good. The next step is developing consistency and a go-to move on offense, as well as consistently playing hard."
