Chase Rice commits to North Carolina

A.C. Reynolds (NC) linebacker wanted to commit in June, but felt that another of his favorites could end up offering, so he decided to wait for them. With an offer from North Carolina last week, it was just a matter of time in his mind before he committed.

"They offered me last week, I think last Thursday," says the 6-foot-2, 200 pounder. "It was kinda funny how they offered. I went to their camp, and I was really, really close to not going to it. I was tired, it was one my last camps, but I went and really, really liked it."

Rice says it was a mixture of their linebacker coach (Huxtable) and head coach John Bunting that made him really interested.

"I got to work out with Coach Huxtable, and I really liked the way he coaches. I will be playing for him, but we are not sure what position. They have not even ruled out middle linebacker."

With excellent Nike Camp numbers, in which Rice ran a 4.65 40, 37.8" vertical, 15 reps at 185, and 3.83 pro shuttle, many thought that Rice would play a safety or outside linebacker in college to let him play in space. However, Huxtable sees Chase like another player he once coached.

"He coached Keith Brooking, who is now in the pros, and he compares me to Brooking. He was 6-2, 190 pounds in high school, which is a lot like me right now."

Rice certainly has the physical tools, but now believes he must show how dominant he is this fall with a better senior season.
