When an injury delayed his senior season debut, North Carolina pledge Jay-Jay McCargo was able to once again display his versatility. Just as he was able to see the field, Arlington (Va.) O’Connell had a need at center. Without a hitch McCargo, who primarily played tackle earlier in his career, moved inside.
While playing center, McCargo’s ability to engage defenders, and drive them away from the play or mirror with his quick feet became huge assets. The 6-foot-3, 306-pounder is not going to pile up the pancakes, but he will prevent his target from affecting the play.
Despite his limited snapping experience prior to 2015, McCargo had minimal issues getting the ball to his quarterback, who was almost exclusively in the shotgun.
