Target 2004: Levonte Barber

UNC running back prospect Levonte Barber lives in Cleveland, Tenn., about 30 miles from Chattanooga. This bit of information might be important to Tar Heel fans because Chattanooga is the hometown of a former High School All-American receiver and a 2003 UNC signee.

"I really do not know much about North Carolina," Barber said. "I do know Adarius Bowman pretty well since he is from my area. Coach [Brad] Lawing is recruiting me for North Carolina. I want to go to Chapel Hill sometime and check out the school."

Currently, South Carolina and Notre Dame are recruiting Barber the hardest, although Notre Dame has not offered. Barber has some ties to South Carolina as his family lived in Columbia for a time. Barber also has family in Fayetteville, so he might feel at home there as well.

"The environment at the school will be important to me," he said. "I want to feel at home. I will also look at the graduation rates at the school and the school's football tradition. I would like to major in sports management. My top three as of now are South Carolina, North Carolina, and Notre Dame. I want to take all my visits before I decide."

Barber is a standout football player but he is also being recruited for baseball. He will want to try and play both football and baseball at the college of his choice, but will not forego college for baseball. He said that his parents do not have a preference where he plays and distance from home will not be a factor.

He currently has offers from South Carolina, UNC and Wake Forest. He lists his favorites in order as USC, UNC and Notre Dame. Tennessee, Auburn and LSU have also shown considerable interest in Barber.
