From his safety position, North Carolina pledge Greg Ross infused physicality into Oxon Hill (Md.) Potomac’s defense. Whether it was in run support or pass coverage, the 6-foot-1, 163-pounder was an impactful hitter.
As such, Ross finished second in tackles (78) for a 10-3 squad. His tackle numbers, of course, don’t include the well-timed hits on receivers to force a pass to fall incomplete. In both scenarios, Ross’s shots regularly drew a pop from spectators.
Ross also led Potomac with four interceptions and deflected four other passes. He was just as adept at making a play on the ball as a centerfielder in a deep zone as he was covering a receiver in man coverage, because of his length and anticipatory skills.
