Although he played in all three phases of the game, North Carolina pledge Patrice Rene’s greatest contribution to Alexandria (Va.) Episcopal’s 6-1-1 season was at cornerback. There, the 6-foot-1, 193-pounder was excellent in ball production (i.e. intercepting and deflecting passes) and man coverage, in addition to his general physicality.
Rene regularly sent passes incomplete because of his length, anticipation, and man coverage skills. Even though he lacks ideal straight-line speed, his quick twitch nature allowed him to smother receivers when in man coverage.
Regardless of whether in coverage, providing run support, or called upon to blitz, Rene never shied away from contact.
