Roy Williams Continues to Prioritize Kevin Knox

Less than 24 hours after the season was over, North Carolina's head coach was talking to a top recruiting target.

On Monday night, Roy Williams was coaching North Carolina in the National Championship game. On Tuesday night, he was on the phone with Kevin Knox, arguably the Tar Heels’ top target in the class of 2017.

“They didn’t really talk about the game at all,” said Kevin Knox Sr., Knox’s father. “They basically said ‘Hey, we’re looking to get down and take advantage of the seven possible visits.’ He wanted to know when we were available.”

Williams and the Knox family agreed to a day within the next two weeks.

Knox, a 6-8, 195-pound forward from Tampa (Fla.) Catholic, has taken two visits to North Carolina in the last two months. He attended the Tar Heels’ win over Pittsburgh in February, and then took another unofficial visit prior to UNC’s win at Duke to end the regular season.

While the conversation was brief, it did make an impression on Knox and his family.

“(Thursday) is the first day coaches can come into the home and they were one of the first to call,” Knox Sr. explained. “They’ll also get a chance to see us during the EYBL season.”

This AAU season Knox will again play with the E1T1 17U team. Both UNC signee Tony Bradley and UNC sophomore Joel Berry are former E1T1 players.

The EYBL season tips off in Brooklyn, N.Y. on April 15.
