North Carolina verbal commitment Jonah Melton has torn his ACL, according to Mebane (N.C.) Eastern Alamance head coach John Kirby.
Melton, 6-foot-3, 293-pound offensive lineman, injured his knee while participating in the Rivals Camp a couple of weekends back. Initially, the injury wasn't deemed serious, but a recent MRI revealed the tear. His doctor wants to perform surgery on the knee next week, Kirby said.
According to Kirby, Melton will visit with UNC doctors this week for a second opinion. A recovery timetable won’t be known until he returns from Chapel Hill.
The four-star prospect verbally committed to the Tar Heels last October.
