Bell returns from Chapel Hill

North Carolina 2004 running back recruit George Bell spoke to Inside Carolina following his visit to Chapel Hill this weekend. The Fayetteville Britt standout attended practice with the Tar Heels on Sunday.

When asked if he was still an N.C. State lean, Bell replied, "Right now, N.C. State is No. 1. But I'm still pretty much open to everyone."

"I met with the coaches and we sat down and looked at some plays," Bell said. "I got close to the huddle and watched them practice.

"It was raining when I went there, but the weather was fine. There was a breeze blowing.

"I like the way Coach [Andre] Powell coaches.

"The visit went good. I enjoyed myself."

Bell said he has sensed that the Tar Heels have turned up the heat on his recruitment lately, but he said he was not aware that Greensboro Dudley's Jamaal Edwards had committed to Florida State.

"I did notice that they had stepped it up a little," Bell said. "I didn't really know he had committed to FSU. I really wasn't following the recruiting news."

Bell, who suffered a severe knee injury during his junior season, is still not 100 percent physically. He is not yet able to practice at full speed.

"I'm practicing as fast as I can," he said.
