Tar Heels Pushing for Andrew Platek

The three-point sharpshooter discussed his recent UNC visit and its impact on his recruitment.

As soon as North Carolina offered this spring, Andrew Platek began making plans to visit Chapel Hill. The rising senior from Northfield (Mass.) Mount Hermon - who shot 44.8% from three with the Albany City Rocks on the EYBL spring circuit - made that trip on June 13 and discussed it with Inside Carolina.

What did you think about your visit to UNC?
It's an unbelievable place. it was a gorgeous day outside so the campus looked even better than normal. It's a great place. I got to sit down and talk to Coach (Roy) Williams for what seemed like hours, with my parents. The facilities they have are top notch and everyone just loves their basketball.

How was your conversation with Roy Williams?
It was good. He's really insightful. He know so much about basketball, it was crazy. He could tell you a story about one thing and end up talking about something else. All his years of coaching and people he knows and the wisdown, he would be good for me.

What's something new about the program that you learned?
I guess how connected their alums were with coming back to school and stuff. That night, I played with Raymond Felton, Tyler Zeller, Kendall Marshall and Reggie Bullock. They just kept talking about how great North Carolina was. Even the people in the NBA that are North Carolina alums, they stick together.

Did this trip help UNC's chances?
Of course. I've wanted to visit down there. It was a great visit. It really opened my eyes as a place that I could actually play and succeed at.

Did you consider committing during the visit?
The offer has been on the table for a while. They were really pushing me to accept it. They are ready to take me at anytime. [They said to] take my time and make sure i'm making the right decision and I'm going to do things on my time and terms.

I'm going to take my time with everything. It's a great school. I loved my visit. And I have a great relationship with the coaches.

After UNC, you went down to Davidson. How was that visit?
It was great. Coach (Bob) McKillop wasn't actually there. He was in Colorado for USA (Basketball). The other McKillop was there and he showed me around and he did a good job, because he said he doesn't usually do it. It was great.

I got to meet the entire team. The assistants and I spent a good amount time with Coach McKillop and watching film.

Do you have any other visits planned?
I'm going to Stanford on Wednesday. Then possibly Michigan in August.

What other schools are involved?
Indiana, Butler, Miami, Harvard, Yale, Princeton.

When do you want to decide?
I've thought about it a lot. I'd like to make a decision late August or early fall to have it locked in and done with so I don't have the stress of making a decision during my senior season.
