In a match-up between two of the state’s top high school programs, North Carolina pledge Ryan Jones caught nine passes for 94 yards and a touchdown. The effort helped Charlotte (N.C.) Mallard Creek easily defeat Matthews (N.C.) Butler, 35-20.
While what he did was impressive, what Jones didn’t do was even more significant from an evaluation standpoint. He was targeted 12 times and didn’t have a single drop (the three incompletions were unmistakable overthrows).
Jones’s 2018 teammate Jordan Davis didn’t start the game, played about a dozen snaps, and had just a single tackle. But, his raw talent is unmistakable.
