Film Room: UNC Blocking Miscommunication vs. Illinois

Examining the safety UNC allowed against Illinois.

North Carolina’s second safety in two games is obviously frustrating, but the positive is that neither safety was the result of getting physically whipped up front but rather due to the kind of poor communication and execution that should be fixed as the year goes on.

In this video, we take a closer look at the second-quarter safety against Illinois, which was the result of a simple missed assignment that allowed an Illinois defensive end untouched into the backfield. This play also serves as an example of just how tight the margins are in college football, as the front side blocking was so good on this play that it would likely have been a 40+ yard run without this miscommunication on the back side of the play.
